The owner of mass transit vehicles operated in the city shall provide, keep in force, and furnish evidence of the following minimum insurance requirements: a contract or contracts of insurance with reliable insurance companies authorized to do business in the State of Illinois and approved by the city, by which contracts both the owner and the city are insured against any claims, demand, or loss for injury to persons or damage to property resulting from or growing out of or connected with the management, supervision, and operations of the mass transit system or its appurtenant facilities or any act or omissions to act by the provider or any of the provider's employees. Such contracts of insurance shall provide comprehensive general liability insurance which includes bodily injury and property damage with combined minimum single limits equivalent to those required by state law; however, this obligation shall not require the provider to furnish insurance against injury to persons or damage to property caused by the negligence of the city or of its employees. Such policy or policies shall provide that they shall not be cancelled unless 30 days' prior notice of such cancellation has been given to the city.
