(A) Hydrant spacing in residential areas shall be 500 feet.
(B) At least 2 fire hydrants shall be located within 500 feet of any building other than one- and two-family dwellings.
(C) Fire hydrants shall be located adjacent to all-weather public roadways or private roadways, fire lanes, or access ways. Hydrants located not more than 10 feet from the roadway shall be deemed accessible to motorized fire apparatus.
(D) Where possible, fire hydrants should be located at least 25 to 50 feet from buildings to be protected.
(E) Fire hydrants protecting commercial and business occupancies shall be of a large size, having not less than 6-inch barrel, 5-inch operating valve, two 2-1/2 inch and one 4-1/2 inch outlets. Branch lines serving hydrants shall be provided with auxiliary gate valves.
(F) Each fire hydrant shall be provided with adequate water supply to develop individually not less than 1,000 gallons per minute flow at not less than 20 pounds per square inch residual pressure.
(G) Water supplies shall be provided for buildings commensurate with the hazards contained in the building. One- and two-family residential buildings without serious exposure hazard shall be provided with approximately 1,000 gallons per minute supply. Apartment buildings will generally range in the area of 3,000 to 4,000 gallons per minute. Fire flows for more hazardous and other uses may be expected to range higher than this quantity. Calculations of quantities necessary shall be provided by the designer and approved by the bureau.
(H) Owners and developers of trailer courts without dedicated streets shall provide approved private hydrants meeting the criteria for residential areas.
(I) The operating screw on all hydrants shall turn clockwise to open.
(J) The outlets on all hydrants shall face toward the roadway or drive.
