§ 32.11 PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT.
   (A)   There is hereby established as a Department of the municipal government of the City a Public Safety Department, which shall manage and effectuate the duties of the Danville Fire Division and the Danville Police Division assigned to those divisions by statute or ordinance. The Director of Public Safety shall be the Executive Officer of the Public Safety Department. The Director shall inform the Mayor and the City Council as to the business and operations of the Department, and shall manage the personnel of the Department. The Director shall also serve as the liaison official between the City administration and the Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency. The management and control of the Public Safety Department is reflected on the organizational chart for such department hereby adopted.
   (B)   Subordinate divisions.
      (1)   Fire. The Fire Division shall be managed and controlled by the Director of Public Safety, assisted by the Assistant Chief(s) of Fire Service. The division shall perform such duties and functions as assigned to it by statute, ordinance and the Director. All duties and functions heretofore performed by the Chief of Fire under contract or as provided by law shall be performed by the Director of Public Safety or his/her designee.
      (2)   Police. The Police Division shall be managed and controlled by the Director of Public Safety, assisted by the Deputy Director(s) of Police, who shall be non-union executive management personnel. The division shall perform such duties and functions assigned to it by statute, ordinance and the Director. All duties and functions heretofore performed by the Chief of Police under contract or as provided by law shall be performed by the Director of Public Safety.
