SEC. 37-80.   AUTHORITY TO CARRY WEAPONS AT THE DIRECTION OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE.
   A person appointed to serve as a reserve police officer of the reserve battalion may carry a weapon only at the express direction of the chief of police. The chief of police may authorize a reserve police officer to carry a weapon only when discharging official duties as a peace officer, except that the chief of police may authorize a reserve police officer who is a peace officer as described in Article 2.12 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, as amended, to carry a weapon or act as a peace officer at all times, regardless of whether the person is engaged in the actual discharge of official duties.
