Whenever the interment of the body of any deceased person has, in the opinion of the director of public health, been unnecessarily delayed or whenever the interment of the body of a deceased person, for sanitary reasons or for the protection of public health, should take place forthwith, it shall be the duty of the director of public health to issue an order directing such interment immediately. The order shall be directed to the person in charge of the body and a failure to comply with the order shall render the person guilty of an offense. Directors of all authorized funeral homes shall report to the director of public health the name of any deceased in their charge that has awaited burial, cremation, or entombment for a period of more than two weeks.
