10-5-9: EXEMPTIONS:
The following signs shall not require a sign permit. These exemptions shall not be construed as relieving the owner of the sign of responsibility for its erection, maintenance and compliance with the provisions of this chapter or any other law or ordinance regulating the same.
   A.   Servicing: Painting, repainting or cleaning of an advertising structure or the changing of the advertising copy or message thereon shall not be considered an erection or alteration which requires a sign permit unless a major structural change is made;
   B.   Flags Or Emblems: Flags or emblems of political, civic, philanthropic, educational or religious organizations;
   C.   Governmental Bodies: Signs of duly constituted governmental bodies, including traffic or similar regulator devices, legal notice or warnings at railroad crossings;
   D.   Temporary Signs: Temporary signs, not exceeding nine (9) square feet of surface area or not more than two (2) signs totaling not over eighteen (18) square feet of surface area on any lot appertaining to campaigns, drives or events of political, civic, philanthropic, educational or religious organizations;
   E.   Plaques, Cornerstones: Memorial plaques, cornerstones, historical tablets and the like;
   F.   Doorbells, Mailboxes: Signs posted in conjunction with doorbells or mailboxes, not exceeding one hundred forty four (144) square inches in surface area;
   G.   Signs Posted By Law: Signs required to be maintained or posted by law or governmental order, rule or regulation, unless specifically prohibited, limited or restricted;
   H.   Small Signs: Small nonilluminated or projecting signs, not exceeding four (4) square feet in surface area, not otherwise prohibited;
   I.   Construction Signs: Construction signs giving names of general contractors, mechanical contractors, electrical contractors, or architect-engineers located on the construction site;
   J.   Interiors: All signs that are entirely constructed, erected and/or placed within interior of the building served;
   K.   Advertising: A sign placed upon the premises of a lot or building for the purpose of advertising said premises for sale or rent, provided the sign does not exceed nine (9) square feet of display surface and is of a temporary nature. (Ord. 2009-03, 12-7-2009)
