9-12-1: DEFINITIONS:
Whenever in this chapter the following words or terms are used, they shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section:
 
GOLF CART:
A vehicle specifically designed and intended for the purposes of transporting one or more persons and their golf clubs or maintenance equipment while engaged in the playing of golf, supervising the play of golf or maintaining the condition of the grounds of a public or private golf course (see Section 1-123.9 of the Illinois Vehicle Code, as amended from time to time).
NON-HIGHWAY or OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES:
A motor vehicle not specifically designed for use on public roadways and highways.
NON-QUALIFIED OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLES:
Any non-highway vehicle other than a golf cart and a utility task vehicle, including an all-terrain vehicle ("ATV") (as defined in Section 1-101.8 of the Illinois Vehicle Code) and an off-highway motorcycle (as defined in Section 1-153.1 of the Illinois Vehicle Code).
QUALIFIED OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLE:
Either a golf cart or a utility task vehicle, as those terms are defined herein, but shall not include any other non-highway vehicle or any non-qualified off-highway vehicle.
UTILITY TASK VEHICLE:
Any motorized off-highway device designed to travel primarily off-highway, 64 inches or less in width, having a manufacturer's dry weight of 2,000 pounds or less, traveling on four (4) or more non-highway tires, and designed with a non-straddle seat, seat belts for use by each occupant, a steering wheel for steering control, a tail light, a break light, two headlights, except equipment such as lawnmowers.
