6-11-1: DEFINITIONS:
The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this Chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this Section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:
   ALARM SYSTEM: Any assembly of equipment, mechanical or electrical, arranged to signal the occurrence of a fire, robbery, illegal entry or other activity requiring urgent attention and to which the Police or Fire Departments or ambulances are expected to respond.
   ALARM USER: The person, other than a unit of local, State or Federal government, in control of any building, structure or facility wherein an alarm system is maintained.
   AUTOMATIC DIALING DEVICE: A device which is interconnected to a telephone line and is programmed to select a predetermined telephone number and transmit by voice message or code signal an emergency message indicating a need for emergency response.
   CHIEF: The chief of the Police Department or his designated representative.
   FALSE ALARM: An alarm signal eliciting a response by emergency services when a situation requiring a response by them does not in fact exist, but does not include an alarm signal caused by violent conditions of nature or other extraordinary circumstances not reasonably subject to control by the alarm user, including power outages and telephone service outages.
   LOCAL ALARM SYSTEM: An alarm system which, when activated, causes an audible and/or visual signalling device to be activated only on the premises within which the system is installed and which is intended to be heard or seen by others outside of the protected premises. (Ord. 555, 9-25-1996)
