6-1-3: DUTIES:
The police department, under the chief of police, and under his supervision, shall:
   (A)   Preserve the peace and order of the village;
   (B)   Protect persons and property from harm, loss or damage;
   (C)   Prevent crime and detect and apprehend persons suspected of crimes and misdemeanors;
   (D)   Regulate traffic upon public thoroughfares;
   (E)   Enforce all criminal laws of this state and all ordinances;
   (F)   Secure all necessary warrants and other documents for the enforcement of these duties, and aid in the prosecution of all such crimes and misdemeanors;
   (G)   Cause to be served and executed any criminal process issued by any court of competent jurisdiction within the village;
   (H)   Have custody of lost, stolen and abandoned property;
   (I)   Maintain proper and adequate records of crimes and criminals and matters relating thereto;
   (J)   To arrest for the violation of any crime and misdemeanor;
   (K)   To have custody of and detention of prisoners and to do and perform all other acts necessary and incidental in the performance of police work and as given by law to any police officer or constable. (Ord. 243, 3-6-1957)
