The fire department shall consist of a fire department administrative secretary, a fire chief, assistant fire chief, and not less than twelve (12) other members. Said fire department administrative secretary, fire chief, assistant fire chief, and members of the fire department are hereby declared to be village officers, and shall, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, take and subscribe to the following oath or affirmation:
I do solemnly (swear or affirm, as the case may be) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Illinois, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of (Fire Department Administrative Secretary, Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, or Village Fireman, as the case may be) according to the best of my ability.

The oath or affirmation so subscribed shall be filed with the clerk. The fire department administrative secretary, fire chief, assistant fire chief and the firemen shall each be provided with the proper badge of office, and shall have police powers as hereinafter set forth.
The fire chief shall serve as the liaison to the mayor and village board regarding fire department matters and in the absence of the fire chief, the assistant fire chief shall serve as the liaison. The liaison will ensure the mayor and village board are updated on issues that apply to compliance with all federal, state and local laws, statutes, ordinances, regulations and safety measures.
