§ 112.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   “BUSINESS.” The business carried on by any person who is an itinerant merchant,
peddler, or solicitor as defined in this section.
   “CANVASSER.” A person who engages in canvassing.
   “CANVASSING.” The act of going upon property or approaching people to discuss or explain issues, which shall include religious proselytizing, exercising an individual's freedom of speech or campaigning for political votes, or political petition drives, or any other such political, religious, protected speech.
   “GOODS.” Merchandise of any description whatsoever, and includes, but is not restricted to, wares and foodstuffs.
   “PEDDLER.” Any person, whether a resident or not, who travels by foot, wagon, automotive vehicle or any other type of conveyance, from place to place, from house to house, or from street to street, conveying, transporting, or carrying goods for sale, or making sales, or making deliveries of goods, wares, or merchandise.
   “SOLICITATION.” The request for contributions, or the act of taking orders for the sale of goods or services or pledges, or subscriptions, connected to a commercial enterprise, or as part of or in furtherance of a for-profit enterprise, venture, or business.
   “SOLICITOR.” Any person who travels by any means from place to place, or house to house, or street to street, taking or attempting to take orders for sale of goods to be delivered in the future or for services to be performed in the future, or who approaches people to ask for, request, or seek monetary contributions, donations, or financial support for a commercial enterprise, or in furtherance of a for-profit enterprise, venture, or business.
   “STRUCTURE.” Any residential structure of any type located in the city.
   “TRANSIENT MERCHANT, ITINERANT MERCHANT, TRANSIENT VENDOR, ITINERANT VENDOR.” Any person, whether as owner, agent or consignee, whether a resident or not, who engages in a temporary business of selling and delivering goods, wares and merchandise within the city, and who in the furtherance of such purpose, hires, leases, uses or occupies any building or other structure, public rooms in hotels, lodging houses, apartments or a shop or any street alley or other place within the city, for the exhibition and sales of such goods, wares and merchandise.
