The Borough Fire Chief shall have the following duties and responsibilities.
(A) (1) He or she shall have complete charge of the handling of all firefighters and equipment in the fighting of fires.
(2) He or she shall also have supervision over firefighters and firefighting equipment with the approval of the Mayor, during the parades in and out of the borough.
(B) He or she shall make careful inspection of all buildings and other property in the borough and report all violations of all state laws and borough ordinances relating to fire hazards.
(C) He or she shall furnish an annual itemized inventory before September 1 every year to the Borough Council of all borough-owned and company-owned firefighting equipment.
(D) He or she shall exhibit a monthly report to the Borough Council of all fires and fire losses. The report shall include a list of all firefighting equipment destroyed, damaged, lost or stolen.
(E) He or she shall conduct periodic fire drills or tests in accordance with the rules and regulations established from time to time by the Borough Council or the Mayor as required by state and local law.
(F) The Borough Fire Chief shall not permit any borough firefighting equipment to attend out of town parades, fires or other purposes or functions without his or her approval.
(G) He or she shall be responsible for providing the borough a list of any expenses that need to be recouped for the fire companies in regard to hazardous clean up or chemicals.
(H) The Borough Fire Chief shall assume all functions of the Borough Fire Marshal, which position was abolished by Borough Council by resolution on June 7, 1999, and which existed by virtue of the ordinance of the borough or by custom.
(I) All equipment purchased by the borough for the Fire Chief shall be the property of the borough. Upon assuming office, or upon receiving any equipment paid for by the borough, the Fire Chief must sign out all borough-owned equipment. The Mayor shall keep this sign-out sheet and shall require the Fire Chief to return all borough-owned property when he or she leaves office.
