For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
APPOINTING AUTHORITY. The officer, commission, board or body having the power of appointment or removal in any office, department, commission, boards or institution.
BOARD OF EXAMINERS. The city’s Board of Examiners for Police and Fire.
INITIAL PROBATIONARY PERIOD or PROBATIONARY PERIOD. A period of one year beginning on the first date that an appointee reports to work and ending on the one year anniversary date of that beginning date, or one year after the appointee completes his or her initial classroom training at Eastern Kentucky University or any other city- approved institution, whichever is later.
KENTUCKY CERTIFIED PEACE OFFICER. An applicant who is certified by the state’s Law Enforcement Council under the peace officers professional standards and has not had a break in service for more than 12 consecutive months.
