§ 90.24 IMPOUNDMENT.
   (A)   The Humane Officer shall apprehend and impound any dog or cat found running at large or any dog or cat that is found kept without food, water, or proper care. Upon impounding any animal, he or she shall immediately give the owner notice of the impoundment either personally or by mail at his or her last known address, if known or ascertainable by reasonable investigation.
   (B)   Any impounded dog may be redeemed from the animal shelter by the owner proving legal right to possession and by payment to the Clerk the license fee for the current year, presentation of a current valid certificate of vaccination against rabies, and payment of $7 as an impoundment fee and $7 per day for each day the dog has been confined in the animal shelter as the cost of maintenance. Licensed dogs shall be released upon presentation of the correct dog tag and the receipt for the dog license for the current year and payment to the Clerk of the impoundment fee and maintenance costs as provided above.
   (C)   Any dog which is not claimed by the owner within a 72-hour period provided for herein shall be sold or destroyed. Any dog may be sold to anyone desiring to purchase the dog for the amount provided for the redemption of stray dogs by their owners.
