The municipal planning commission, hereinafter referred to as the planning commission, shall consist of nine (9) members. Two (2) of these members shall be the mayor of the city or a person designated by him, and a member of the city council, selected by that body. The other seven (7) members shall be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by a majority of the city council. The terms of the mayor or his designate and the councilman elected by the council shall run concurrently with their term in office. The terms of the seven (7) members appointed by the mayor shall be for five (5) years with terms to expire on the date of the first council meeting in each calendar year.
Members appointed after the effective date of this amendment shall be required to live within the planning area of the Cookeville Planning Commission. Any vacancy in an appointive membership shall be filled for the unexpired term by the mayor.
