Pursuant to authority granted by Tennessee Code Annotated, §§ 6-54-501 through 6-54-506, and for the purpose of regulating the construction, alteration, repair, use and/or occupancy, location, maintenance, removal, and demolition of every building or structure or any appurtenance connected to or attached to any building or structure, the International Building Code and the International Residential Code1, 2018 edition, as prepared and adopted by the International Code Council, is hereby adopted with amendments and incorporated by reference as a part of this code, and is hereinafter referred to as the building code.
International Residential Code (IRC) Section R313.2 is amended to read as follows: An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall not be required in a single-family detached dwelling as defined by the Cookeville Zoning Code. Single family attached, two-family or duplexes as defined by the Cookeville Zoning Code will be required to have an automatic fire sprinkler system installed.
IRC Section R314.6 Power Source relating to smoke alarms is amended to create an exception 3 that reads: interconnection and hardwiring of smoke alarms in existing areas shall not be required where alterations or repairs do not result in the removal of interior walls or ceilings finishes exposing the structures.
