If an owned, unrestrained animal has bitten a person, the animal shall be impounded at a veterinary hospital or kennel of the owner’s choice, at owner’s expense. This impoundment shall be for a period of 14 days in order to determine whether or not the animal has rabies. If the animal dies during the period it shall, at the owner’s expense, be sent to the proper authorities to determine whether or not it was rabid; however, if the owner has a valid, current certificate showing the animal has had the necessary rabies shot, then the animal will not be impounded.
