§ 153.01 TITLE AND PURPOSE.
   (A)   Title. This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Subdivision Ordinance for Town of Columbus, North Carolina" and may be referred to as the "Subdivision Ordinance".
   (B)   Purpose. The purpose of this chapter is:
      (1)   To establish standards and procedures for the subdivision and resubdivision of land within the territorial jurisdiction of the town;
      (2)   To provide for the orderly and harmonious growth and development of the town;
      (3)   To coordinate streets and roads within proposed subdivisions with existing and planned streets and highways, and with other public facilities;
      (4)   To dedicate or reserve recreation or open space areas serving residents of the immediate neighborhood within the subdivision and to dedicate or reserve rights-of-way or easements for streets and utilities;
      (5)   To distribute population and traffic in a manner that will avoid congestion and overcrowding and will create conditions essential to public health, safety and general welfare;
      (6)   To further facilitate adequate provisions of water, sewerage, parks and schools; and
      (7)   To facilitate the further resubdivision of larger tracts into smaller parcels of land.
