§ 117.01 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
   AMUSEMENT CENTER. Any room or place open to and available to the general public where 15 or more mechanical amusement devices and/or non-coin-operated amusement devices are kept, and where any person can play a game on a mechanical or amusement device by the insertion of a coin, slug or token, or by the payment of a fee or charge, or by the purchase, possession or presentation of a ticket or token.
   BILLIARD HALL or POOL ROOM. Any room or place open to and available to the general public where one or more billiard tables or pool tables of any design or size and less than 15 mechanical amusement devices and/or non-coin-operated amusement devices are kept, and where any person can play a game on a mechanical or amusement device, or the game of billiards or pool, or any variation thereof, by the insertion of a coin, slug or token, or by the payment of a fee or charge, or by the purchase, possession or presentation of a ticket or token.
   DISCOTHEQUE and/or PUBLIC DANCE HALL. Any room or place open to, and available to, the general public where facilities are maintained, and in, upon and as a result of admission thereto, a person may engage in the amusement of dancing, of any nature or kind, version or variation thereof, and whether accompanied by music manually produced by any combination of instruments constituting a band, orchestra or other musical assemblage, or music produced by a mechanical amusement device, or non-coin-operated amusement device, with or without, the payment of a fee, stipend, token, coin or other payment or charge, or not accompanied by music of any kind.
   DISORDERLY CONDUCT. Those acts defined in G.S. § 14-288.4 or any successor in effect from time to time.
   MECHANICAL AMUSEMENT DEVICES. Any machine which, upon the insertion of a coin, trade-token or slug, operates or may be operated as a game or contest of skill or amusement of any kind or description, and which contains no automatic payoff device for the return of money or trade-token or slug, or which makes no provision whatever for the return of money to the player. A MECHANICAL AMUSEMENT DEVICE is further defined as any machine, apparatus or contrivance which is used or which may be used as a game of skill and amusement wherein or whereby the player initiates, employs or directs any force generated by the machine. The term MECHANICAL AMUSEMENT DEVICE is also hereby defined to be, and shall include, each machine vending recorded music or a period of radio or television entertainment in return for the insertion or deposit therein of a coin or trade-tokens or slugs.
   NON-COIN-OPERATED AMUSEMENT DEVICE. Any device operated in a manner of a slot machine, but without a slot for the insertion of coins to operate the machine and without a receptacle in the machine for making payment by reason of certain arrangements on the wheels on the machine.
