It is unlawful for any person to tamper with or remove any working smoke detector except when necessary for maintenance or inspection purposes. Any smoke detector removed for repair or replacement shall be reinstalled or replaced so that it is in place during normal sleeping hours. At every change of tenant in every rental dwelling unit, smoke detectors shall be tested to see that they are in operable condition. The ongoing maintenance of the smoke detectors shall be the responsibility of the tenant. (Prior code § 8-31)
