133.03 BURIAL OR CREMATION OF INDIGENT PERSONS.
   (a)    When any dead person is found within the Village limits and the body is not claimed for private interment or cremation by a person at the person's own expense, Village officials shall be notified.
   (b)    Such notification shall be made through the office of the Village Fiscal Officer.
   (c)    The following Village officials shall be notified through the Village Fiscal Officer of such a death: the Mayor, the Fiscal Officer, and the Council President.
   (d)    Village officials shall ensure the person was not an inmate of a correctional institution of the County or a patient or resident of a benevolent institution of the County.
   (e)    Village officials shall require verification that the decedent is a Village resident, is indigent, that no one has claimed the body, and any other conditions required by law.
   (f)    Village officials shall use their best efforts to ensure that there are no additional funds available for burial or cremation of the person and, should Village officials become aware of the existence of such funds after the Village authorizes the burial or cremation at Village expense, the Village will be reimbursed from said funds, or shall reduce the amount to be paid by the amount of said funds.
   (g)    Upon being satisfied that the above conditions exist, Village officials shall be authorized to sign a contract on behalf of the Village that will allow the body to be disposed of at Village expense, less any and all funds available from other sources, and a stone or concrete marker on which the person's name and age, if known, and date of death shall be inscribed. In payment of these expenses, the Village will supplement other amounts available from all other sources to ensure a total sum available of one thousand dollars ($1,000).
