(A) Pursuant to the provisions of M.S. § 415.11, as it may be amended from time to time, effective January 1, 2009, the salary of each Council member shall be $7,800 per year, payable at the rate of $650 per month, and the salary of the Mayor shall be $13,800 per year, payable at the rate of $1,150 per month.
(B) Each Council member and the Mayor shall have such option as is allowed by state law to become members of and participate in the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). Upon a Council member or Mayor exercising such option to become a member, the city shall pay the employer's share as required by law, and the Council member or Mayor so electing membership shall have deducted from his salary the employee's share as is provided by law. Upon becoming eligible to do so under state law, each Council member or the Mayor shall have the option to purchase such prior service credit as is allowable by statute by paying the employee's share as provided by state law. Upon such payment to purchase prior service credit by a Council member or Mayor, the city shall pay to the Association a matching amount as provided by state law.
