6.8.107: LICENSE TAGS; SUBSTITUTES:
   A.   It shall be unlawful for the owner or keeper of any dog or cat required to be licensed to fail to provide a dog or cat with a suitable collar made of leather, metal or other substantial material to be worn by the animal and to which shall be attached the license tag issued by the City's animal control contractor and a current rabies vaccination tag, when the animal is required to be licensed and inoculated. In the event any dog or cat is found not wearing a collar with tags attached, the owner or keeper of the animal shall be deemed to be in violation of this section.
   B.   Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection A of this section, a dog or cat need not be fitted with a collar carrying a license tag and a rabies vaccination tag if the dog or cat has been implanted with a microchip and the microchip has been registered with the City's animal control contractor in a manner that allows the owner or keeper of the animal to be contacted in the event of an impoundment or other circumstance requiring notification. The implantation and registration of a microchip shall satisfy the provisions of subsection A of this section.
