5-2-1-2: ASSAULT OR BATTERY; FIGHTING:
   A.   Assault: It shall be unlawful for any person to commit "assault" which is hereby defined as any conduct which places another in reasonable apprehension of receiving a battery. [720 ILCS 5/12-1]
   B.   Battery: It shall be unlawful for any person to commit "battery". A person commits battery if he/she intentionally or knowingly, without legal justification and by any means, causes bodily harm to an individual or makes physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature with an individual. [720 ILCS 5/12-2]
   C.   Fighting: It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly start a fight, or to fight, or to commit any assault or battery in any public place in the City. [65 ILCS 5/12-3.2] (1997 Code)
