§ 156.070 OBSTRUCTIONS IN REQUIRED YARDS.
   (A)   All required yards shall be kept free of all material including, but not limited to, buildings, structures (specifically included within the term structures, without limitation, are skid built structures and carports of any description), parking lots, material for sale, outdoor storage, and advertising.
   (B)   The following shall not be considered obstructions when located within required yards except in areas required for vision clearance at intersections.
      (1)   In all yards.
         (a)   Open terraces not over four feet above the average level of the adjoining ground, but not including a permanently roofed-over terrace or porch;
         (b)   Awnings or canopies attached to structures that are otherwise within the building setback lines. This does not include carports of any description;
         (c)   Steps that are four feet or less above grade, which are necessary for access to a permitted building or for access to a building lot from a street or alley;
         (d)   Chimneys projecting 18 inches or less into the yard;
         (e)   Movable recreational and laundry-drying equipment (a.k.a. clotheslines) located in rear yards;
         (f)   Arbors and trellises;
         (g)   Flag poles; and
         (h)   Walls and fences not exceeding six feet in height above natural grade level.
      (2)   In front yards.
         (a)   One-story bay windows and overhanging eaves;
         (b)   Downspouts projecting not more than six feet into the yard; and
         (c)   “For Sale” or “For Rent” signs offering the real estate upon which they are located for sale or rent. Such signs must otherwise comply with sign regulations within this chapter.
      (3)   In rear yards.
         (a)   Enclosed, attached, or detached off-street parking spaces;
         (b)   Open, off-street parking spaces;
         (c)   Balconies, breezeways, and open porches;
         (d)   One-story bay windows projecting not more than three feet into the yard; and
         (e)   Overhanging gutters and eaves projecting not more than two feet into the yard.
      (4)   In side yards. Overhanging eaves and gutters projecting no more than two feet into the yard.
