The council shall contract to insure the city against liability for workers' compensation and against statutory liability for the costs of hospitalization, nursing, and medical attention for firefighters and emergency medical service providers injured in the performance of their duties as firefighters and emergency medical service providers whether within or outside the corporate limits of the city. All firefighters and emergency medical service providers shall be covered by the contract. (2000 Code § 35.10; amd. 2008 Code)
