The purpose of this chapter is to set forth the requirements for the installation of approved smoke alarm and/or detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and fire extinguishers to promote and preserve public safety, health, and welfare through the protection of people from fire by providing an early alarm and a first line of defense against fires of limited size, thereby preventing death or injury from fire.
