For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
PEDDLER. Any person carrying goods, merchandise or services who sells or offers for sale such goods or merchandise from upon the public street including any person who takes orders house to house or from business to business where said businesses have posted as not allowing solicitation for goods, merchandise or services for later delivery.
PEDDLING. The selling or offering for sale goods, merchandise or services which are carried by a person from house to house or from business to business where such businesses have not posted as not allowing solicitation or upon the public streets and including the taking of orders house to house or from business to business where said businesses have posted as not allowing solicitation for goods, merchandise or services for later delivery.
SOLICITOR. Any person or organization, unless exempted by another provision of this chapter, who shall solicit, from door-to-door, from house to house or from business to business where said businesses have posted as not allowing solicitation, contributions of funds personally or through an authorized employee, agent, or representative by the direct solicitation of money or by the sale of buttons, tokens, candies or other items of nominal value intending that all or a substantial portion of such funds be used for the procurement of necessaries for one or more individuals or for medical, educational, religious or other purposes toward the benefit of the community.
TRANSIENT MERCHANT. A person principal or agent who engages in a merchandising business from a temporary location or structure in the city and who for the purpose of carrying on such business hires, leases or occupies any land, structure, trailer or truck for exhibition and sale of such goods, wares, or merchandise and including the sale of any article, food, beverage, fruit, vegetable or farm product unless otherwise exempted by another provision of this chapter. Temporary association with a local merchant, dealer, trader or auctioneer, or conduct of such transient business in connection with, as a part of, or in the name of any local merchant, dealer, trader or auctioneer does not exempt a person from being considered a TRANSIENT MERCHANT.
VENDOR. Vendor shall include peddlers, solicitors and transient merchants. VENDOR does not include mobile food vendors as defined in chapter 112A of this code of ordinances.
