§ 94.49 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this subchapter, the following definitions shall apply.
   BACKGROUND ADJACENT STREET TRAFFIC. Existing traffic on the street adjacent to the driveway.
   CORNER CLEARANCE. The distance measured along a projection of the nearest through-lane curbline or edge of pavement of an intersection to the nearest edge of a proposed driveway.
   DRIVEWAY. The improved area between a public street and private property intended to provide ingress and egress for vehicular traffic from the street to a definite area on the private property. Driveways are classified as either single-family residential or commercial, with subtypes (multi-family, industrial, institutional, and the like) falling under the commercial classification.
   DRIVEWAY ANGLE. The angle between the proposed driveway centerline and the centerline of the existing street.
   FRONTAGE BOUNDARY LINE. A line, perpendicular to the street centerline, at the each end of the frontage, extending from the intersection of the property line with the right-of-way line to the nearest back of curbline or edge of pavement.
   GRADE. The slope parallel to the intended path of travel.
   PRIVATE STREET. A vehicular travelway not dedicated or offered for dedication as a public street, but otherwise resembling a street by carrying traffic from a series of driveways to the public street system.
   PUBLIC STREET. Street shall include avenue, boulevard, court, expressway, highway, lane, parkway, place, road, terrace, or other descriptors dedicated to the village for public use.
   RADIUS RETURN. Curved arc between intersecting street and/or driveway curblines or edge of pavements.
   RAMP or APRON TYPE. A driveway constructed with drop curb transition on a curb and gutter section.
   RIGHT-OF-WAY (R/W). Land conveyed or dedicated to the village or state to be used for a street, alley, walkway, drainage facility or other public use.
   SERVICE DRIVE. A driveway typically used for delivery vehicles and service vehicles that may have a loading dock.
   SIDE CLEARANCE. The distance, measured along the street right-of-way line, from the property line to the near edge of the driveway.
   SIDE STREET. A street that is subordinate in the street hierarchy, often used to describe the lesser order street where a property has frontage on two streets.
   SIDEWALK. An area on public or private property where pedestrians walk or stand, generally parallel to the street curbline or edge of pavement.
   STREET TYPE. A driveway constructed with radius returns; similar in appearance to a street intersection.
   SWALE or FLUME. A low-lying or depressed area.
   WINDOW OF VISIBILITY. An area around the driveway between two and a half feet and ten feet above the finish grade free of obstructions within the sight triangle.
