The Town Clerk-Treasurer and Marshal of the town, before entering upon the duties of their respective offices, shall execute bonds to the Town of Clayton, with securities to be approved by the Board of Trustees of the town, conditioned that they will faithfully perform the duties of their respective offices, and they will, when they vacate their respective offices, surrender and turn over to their successors all monies, books, papers, property and other things in their custody or control belonging to the town. The penalties of the bond required by this section shall be as follows: the Clerk-Treasurer, $1,000; the Marshal, $1,000; and the Board of Trustees of the town may increase the bonds and may require bonds from any and other officials, and fix the amounts therefor, when in its judgment the same is necessary. The bond shall be filed with the Clerk-Treasurer of the town, and by him or her kept and preserved in some secure place, subject, however, at all times to the inspection of the Town Board of Trustees, and the bonds shall be recorded in a book kept for that purpose.
