§ 32.55 DUTIES.
   (A)   There is hereby established the Department of Public Safety which shall consist of the Public Safety Director and such further number of assistants as may be duly ordered by resolution of the Trustees. The Director of Public Safety shall, subject to the direction of the Chairperson of the Village Board of Trustees, have control and management of all matters relating to law enforcement and shall have custody and control of all property and books belonging to the Police Department. The Director of Public Safety shall be Chief of Police of the village and shall execute and enforce all laws and orders of the Village Board.
   (B)   It shall be the duty of the Department of Public Safety and the Public Safety Director to protect the rights of persons and property, to respond to all calls for an emergency medical technician, police emergencies, and fires. The Department of Public Safety shall take notice of all nuisances, impediments, obstructions, and defects in the streets, avenues, alleys, business places, and residences of the village. The Director of Public Safety shall become thoroughly conversant with the laws of the village and shall see that the same are strictly enforced and shall make sworn complaints against any person or persons for violation of the same.
