When signs are erected giving notice thereof, no person shall operate any truck, trailer, tractor and trailer taller, wider and longer than a conventional station wagon or pickup truck at any time upon any of the roads or parts of roads as follows, except that such restrictions shall not apply to the necessary local operation on such roads for the purpose of picking up or delivering materials.
