§ 36.04  RETENTION OF SERVICE WEAPONS FOR RETIRED OFFICERS.
   (A)   Upon the retirement of any county police officer either after a minimum of 20 years of service to the County Police Department or as a result of a disability acquired in the line of duty, the Sheriff of the county may allow such officer to retain that officer’s badge and service weapon in recognition of such officer’s unselfish and dedicated service to the County Police Department and the citizens of the county.
   (B)   In the event of such retirement and authorization from the Sheriff, as set forth herein above, the Sheriff shall issue to such officer a retirement badge and an identification card that lists the officer’s name and rank, discloses that such officer is retired, and notes the authority for the retention of the officer’s badge and service weapon by such retired officer as his or her own property.
