All buildings having required approved automatic supervised fire alarm systems, approved automatic supervised fire protection systems, approved automatic or manual supervised commercial kitchen fire suppression systems shall have a rapid entry system by which to allow emergency personnel immediate access to the building. This system shall consist of an approved model Knox box key vault, securely mounted to the exterior of the building in a location approved by the chief of the fire prevention bureau or his/her designee(s), containing the following keys:
A. All exterior entry doors leading into the building;
B. Fire alarm control panel (FACP);
C. Fire protection/sprinkler rooms;
D. All utility/electrical rooms; and
E. All boiler/furnace rooms.
The building owner(s)/occupant(s) shall be responsible for the purchase and installation of the Knox box as well as contacting the fire prevention bureau to secure the building keys. It shall be the building owner's and building occupant's responsibility to provide the fire prevention bureau with properly labeled and updated keys as needed. Application forms for obtaining the Knox box can be obtained from the fire prevention bureau at the fire department during normal business hours. (Ord. 00-08-23)
