A minimum of two (2) separate "exits" (defined as an unobstructed means of egress to a public way) is required on every floor or story in a daycare facility where the number of occupants exceeds six (6). Only one exit shall be required for six (6) occupants or less unless the building official or fire marshal determines more are required for occupant safety in the particular circumstance. The word "occupants" includes attendants as well as the children being cared for. At least one of the exits must lead directly to the outside. Ramp requirements, as described in the international building code, may be omitted in daycare centers which are conditionally permitted in R-3 occupancies as defined by the international building code and the international residential code.
