For the purpose of this chapter the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
MOTOR VEHICLE FOR HIRE. A motor vehicle having a seating capacity of seven passengers or less used for the transportation of persons for hire at rates computed solely on an hourly basis.
TAXICAB. A motor vehicle having a seating capacity of seven passengers or less and used for the transportation of persons for hire at rates computed on a mileage basis.
TAXIMETER. A mechanical instrument or device by which the charge for hire is mechanically calculated, upon which said charge shall be indicated by means of figures.
TAXI STAND. Any portion of a street, alley or public place in the city which has been set apart and designated as herein provided for the use of taxicabs or motor vehicles for hire; also referred to as a “stand.”
