§ 66-1 PROOF OF INSURANCE.
   (A)   The owner or operator who operates or permits the operation of a motor vehicle upon the highways of this state shall produce, upon the request of a police officer, evidence that the motor vehicle is insured under M.C.L.A. §§ 500.3101 through 500.3179. An owner or operator of a motor vehicle who fails to produce such evidence when requested is responsible for a civil infraction.
   (B)   A certificate of insurance issued by an insurance company which states that security meeting the requirements of M.C.L.A. §§ 500.3101, 500.3102, is in force shall be prima facie evidence that insurance is in force until the expiration date. The certificate shall describe the motor vehicles, the name of each person named on the policy and a policy declaration.
   (C)   If an owner is determined to be responsible for a violation of subsection (A) of this section, the court may require the person to surrender his operator's or chauffeur's license, unless proof of insurance is submitted to the court.
