The Clerk shall be responsible for the custody and safekeeping of all registration books and supplies. On election day, he shall deliver them to the respective Boards of Inspectors of Election, taking their receipt therefor. For such purposes, the services of the Police Department shall be available under the direction of the Chief of Police, and for the return of election records to the office of the Clerk after the closing of the polls and the tallying of the votes cast thereat.
