(A) The Sanitation Department is not responsible for picking up any item unless it is properly presented for pickup in the manner required by this chapter.
(B) The Sanitation Department will not normally operate on any day observed by the city as a holiday. Pickup for those days shall be scheduled by the Sanitation Department on an alternate pickup day.
(C) Customers shall be entitled to the collection of solid waste on the terms provided herein. Any individual or entity producing solid waste in the city that is not a customer of the Sanitation Department must provide their own removal of garbage/refuse, or make arrangements for the removal of garbage and/or refuse with a private contractor.
(D) Each customer shall be entitled to one weekly curbside collection of solid waste. The monthly fee for such service shall be $20.52.
(E) Solid waste disposed of by weekly collection shall be placed in an approved, 96-gallon container, which container must be leased from the city for a one-time fee. The cost of the container fee to the user shall be the cost paid by the city for each container. The removal of all solid waste placed in such container each weekshall be included in the base monthly fee of $20.52.
(F) Ashes, refuse, trash and debris sliall bagged before being placed in an approved container.
(G) Sanitation Department customers who regularly find themselves with more solid waste than one approved container will accommodate may lease an additional approved container for a separate, one-time fee. The cost of the container fee to the user shall be the cost paid by the city for each container. The monthly fee for the weekly collection of garbage/refuse shall increase by $5.70 for customers who have rented an additional container.
(H) To ensure collection of approved container(s), such container(s) must:
(1) Be placed on the curb of the customer’s property no later than 5:00 a.m. on the day scheduled for pick-up. Customers may place approved container(s) on the curb after 5:00 p.m. on the day preceding collection;
(2) Be removed from the curb no later than 5:00 a.m. on the day following the day scheduled for pick-up;
(3) Be at least four feet from any obstacles overhead or beside the container;
(4) Be at least ten feet from vehicles;
(5) Be closed completely;
(6) Be situated with the front of the container facing the street.
(I) In addition to the removal of the solid waste placed in an approved container(s), the base monthly rate for customers shall include the removal of one bulk item (i.e. an item which cannot be reasonably placed in the approved container) each month. This bulk item may include furniture, mattresses, grills, playground, or exercise equipment.
(J) Bulk items to be removed, over and above one per month, shall be removed with a fee of $10 per item. These items shall be placed at the curb at the same time and upon the same terms as an approved container, and shall be collected the same day or the day following regular waste collection or collection of a work order.
(K) Sanitation Department customers in need of a periodic additional solid waste collection may initiate a work order with the Sanitation Department. Such additional collection shall take place on Friday following the placement of the work order, and shall result in a per occurrence fee of $10.
