(A) Exemptions to licensing requirement. No license under this subchapter is required for the execution or performance of the following electrical work:
(1) Installation of communications systems, installations in recreational vehicles and installations not covered by the State Electrical Code, being 675 I.A.C. 17-1.8; and
(2) The performance of electrical work in a one-family dwelling by the owner/occupant of the dwelling; provided, however, that this exemption does not apply to any person hired by the owner/occupant for compensation to assist or to perform the electrical work on that dwelling, and that the owner/occupant shall sign a waiver if required by the City Building Commissioner (hereinafter “Building Commissioner”).
(B) Exemptions to licensing exam.
(1) Recent work in city. An applicant may be issued a license without passing the licensing exam if that applicant has done electrical work in the city for at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter, and the applicant applies for a waiver within six months after this subchapter first becomes effective.
(2) Proof of recent work in city. Proof of having done business in the city at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter shall be proven by showing that a work permit was issued by the Building Commissioner to the applicant at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter.
(3) Recent work in local municipalities. An applicant may be issued a license without passing the licensing exam if that applicant has done electrical work for the City of New Albany, Indiana, City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, Town of Clarksville, Indiana or the Town of Sellersburg, Indiana for at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter.
(4) Proof of recent work in local municipalities. Proof of having done business in the above municipalities for at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter shall be proven by showing that a work permit was issued by one of the above municipality’s Code Enforcement Officials to the applicant at least one year prior to the effective date of this subchapter.
