6-2-8: SPEED LIMITS:
   A.   Speed Limit Categories: It shall be unlawful for any person to drive or operate any motor vehicle, motor truck or motorcycle upon the following public streets in excess of the following speed limits: (Ord. 69-O-32, 10-21-1969)
10 MILES PER HOUR
All streets contained entirely within Lake Charleston Municipal Park.

   B.   University Heights Subdivision And Arbors I And Arbors II Subdivisions: It shall be unlawful for any person driving or operating any motor vehicle, motor truck or motorcycle upon any public street or alley in the subdivision known as the University Heights Subdivision, recorded as described on plats filed in the county recorder's office, Coles County, as documents 276895, 301462, 303013, 310775, 314699, 318830 and 326931, and Arbors I Subdivision and Arbors II Subdivision, recorded as described on plats filed in the county recorder's office, Coles County, as documents 522862 and 543831, at a speed in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour excepting on Reynolds Drive where it shall be unlawful to operate any motor vehicle, motor truck or motorcycle at speeds in excess of thirty (30) miles per hour.    C.   Second Division Vehicles: The speed of all vehicles of the second division shall always be reasonable and safe and be governed, as near as may be, by the general requirements of subsection A of this section, but such speed shall not exceed the following rates:
      1.   Vehicles having a gross weight of five thousand (5,000) pounds or less, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load, if equipped with pneumatic tires, thirty five (35) miles per hour; if equipped with two (2) or more solid rubber tires, ten (10) miles per hour.
      2.   Vehicles designed and used for carrying more than seven (7) passengers and having a gross weight of not more than twelve thousand (12,000) pounds, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load if equipped with pneumatic tires, thirty five (35) miles per hour; vehicles designed and used for pulling and carrying freight and having a gross weight of not more than twelve thousand (12,000) pounds, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load, if equipped with pneumatic tires, thirty five (35) miles per hour; in either case, if equipped with solid rubber tires, ten (10) miles per hour.
      3.   Vehicles designed and used for the carrying of more than seven (7) passengers and having a gross weight of more than twelve thousand (12,000) pounds, and not more than fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load, if equipped with pneumatic tires, thirty five (35) miles per hour; vehicles designed and used for pulling and carrying freight and having a gross weight of more than twelve thousand (12,000) pounds and not more than fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load, if equipped with pneumatic tires, thirty (30) miles per hour; in either case if equipped with solid rubber tires, ten (10) miles per hour.
      4.   Vehicles having a gross weight of more than fifteen thousand (15,000) pounds, including the weight of the vehicle and maximum load, if equipped with pneumatic tires, twenty five (25) miles per hour; if equipped with solid rubber tires, ten (10) miles per hour. (Ord. 61-O-4, 2-8-1961)
   D.   School Zones: School speed zone of twenty (20) miles per hour when school is in session and children are present.
      1.   It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle, motor truck or motorcycle upon the following public streets in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour on school days when school is in session and children are present as set forth by Illinois Compiled Statutes:
Jefferson Avenue from its intersection at 6th Street easterly to its intersection at 10th Street;
Lincoln Avenue from its intersection with 11th Street easterly to its intersection with 18th Street;
Madison Avenue from its intersection at 7th Street easterly to its intersection at 9th Street;
McComb Avenue from its intersection at Reynolds Drive westerly to a point six hundred feet (600') from the centerline of McComb Drive and Reynolds Avenue;
Olive Avenue from its intersection at 7th Street easterly to its intersection at 10th Street;
Reynolds Drive from its intersection at Warren Avenue north to a point one hundred twenty five feet (125') north of the centerline of the intersection of McComb and Reynolds Avenue;
7th Street from its intersection at Jefferson Avenue north to its intersection at Washington Avenue;
13th Street from its intersection with Buchanan north to its intersection with Tyler;
15th Street from its intersection with Smith Drive north to its intersection with Harrison Avenue; and
