6-1-3: CROSSWALKS 1 :
   A.   Driving Through Crosswalks: Generally, it shall be unlawful for anyone to drive a motor vehicle through or across, from any direction, a crosswalk when said crosswalk is occupied by a pedestrian.
   B.   School Crosswalks; Speed Restrictions: No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed in excess of twenty (20) miles per hour while passing a school zone or while traveling upon any street or highway on or across which children pass along or over going to or from school during school days when children are present.    C.   Crossing Guards:
      1.   Designated: Any person who is employed by the city or its agent for the purpose of entering upon the roadway within a crosswalk in order to stop vehicular traffic is designated a crossing guard. (Ord. 61-O-5, 2-18-1961; amd. 1991 Code)
      2.   Uniform: Each and every crossing guard within the city shall wear such distinctive clothing as is necessary to warn vehicular traffic of his presence and as is required by the laws, rules and regulations of the state department of transportation. Each guard shall carry in an upright position a sign bearing the letters "STOP", said sign being in conformity of design with the laws of the state. (Ord. 73-O-36, 10-16-1973; amd. 2006 Code)
      3.   Authority: Each and every crossing guard within the city shall have the power to enter upon the designated crosswalks and, upon raising the handheld traffic control device, stop vehicular traffic for the purpose of allowing pedestrians to walk across the roadway within the crosswalks.
   D.   Prohibited Pedestrian Crossings: Pedestrian crossings at other than designated and marked crosswalks or at intersections are prohibited. (Ord. 73-O-36, 10-16-1973; amd. Ord. 21-O-15, 4-20-2021)
