§ 52.023 INDEPENDENT BRANCHES.
   (A)   Whenever two or more distinct buildings, premises, business units or residential units are to be supplied by means of branch or surface pipes supplied by a single tap in the street main, each branch must be equipped with an independent plumbing system arranged with shut off valves in the manner prescribed by this chapter and separate meters must be installed for each individual building premises, business unit or residential unit served by means of the single tap.
   (B)   Water meters for branch systems shall be located in a meter room and be accessible from a public area of the building or premises. A phone line shall be provided from the phone service interconnect to each meter and be wired to the phone number of that unit . Phone jacks and meter spreads shall be tagged to each unit. Meters may be placed in a room with a fire sprinkler system or phone system as long as meters are readily accessible.
