Effective January 1, 1980, the Building Code of the City is hereby amended and supplemented to require the installation of a smoke detector in any new residential building, unoccupied storage area of any new business building constructed within the City. The detector herein required, shall be one approved, listed and labeled by the Building Code, as meeting requirements for detection of invisible and visible particles of combustion and must be installed in a manner and location consistent with this listing, and when activated the detector must provide an alarm suitable to warn occupants within the building.
