9-2-1: DEFINITIONS:
CORPORATION (CORP) STOP: A valve set at the point where the utility service line is connected to the main line. The city is responsible to provide, maintain and repair the corporation stop.
CURB STOP: A valve placed in the meter vault for the purpose of turning the customer's water off or on. The city is responsible to provide, maintain and repair curb stops except in the case of customer or plumber disturbance resulting in repairs. Such repairs will be charged to the party that disturbed the curb stop.
CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE: The water service line between the customer side of a meter and the customer's house, business, or wherever water is ultimately used on the customer side. The customer is responsible for maintenance and repairs on this line.
LAWN METER: A meter set by the city at the customer's request, for the purpose of watering lawns, shrubs and gardens. Water from lawn meters have no access to sewer system.
MAIN LINE: Underground line used for the transport of water used for consumption and fire protection throughout the service area. The city is responsible to maintain and repair main lines.
MAIN LINE VALVE: A valve set in a main water line that is accessed only by the city to turn on or shut off water for the purpose of making line improvements and repairs. The city is responsible to maintain and repair main line valves.
METER VAULT: Round or rectangular box with a lid placed in the ground around a water meter for the purpose of protecting the meter. The city is responsible to provide and maintain meter vaults.
POTABLE WATER: Water treated to a quality that is safe for human consumption.
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR: Oversees and directs the public works department.
REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS: Monday through Friday, eight o'clock (8:00) A.M. to five o'clock (5:00) P.M.
UTILITY CUSTOMER: Any person, firm or corporation that purchases potable water from the city.
UTILITY CUSTOMER SERVICE: The division within the public works department that handles customer questions, complaints, work orders, meter reading and utility billing.
UTILITY SERVICE LINE: The water line between a city main line and the back side of the meter. This city is responsible for maintenance and repairs on this line.
WATER METER: The device, including any appurtenances thereto, that is used to register water use. A meter may be read by manual, computer, electrical, radio or telephonic means. The city is responsible to maintain and repair water meters.
WATER SYSTEM: Potable water treatment, supply and distribution system owned and operated by the city of Chandler. (5-3-2001)
