§ 33.046  USE OF CONTROLLED TIRE DEFLATION DEVICES.
   (A)   When an officer of the Police Department is notified that a vehicle pursuit is approaching or is currently in the jurisdiction, the following shall be observed:
      (1)   Provide whatever assistance is possible to the pursuing officer to protect lives and property; and
      (2)   When time permits and safety considerations are met, the use of a controlled tire deflation device is authorized. No officer, reserve or other Department employee shall be permitted to deploy a controlled tire deflation device unless all of the following criteria are met:
         (a)   The officer has been trained in the use of the controlled tire deflation device’s use and deployment as established by training and manufacturer’s recommended use;
         (b)   When possible, the pursuing officers will first be made aware of and acknowledge that the controlled tire deflation device will be used, including location and any officer controlled lane restrictions established; and
         (c)   The deploying officer stays with and collects that device.
   (B)   The sergeant shall prepare a pursuit reporting form if the tire deflation device is used, with the assistance of any officer(s) involved, noting any and all damages. The report will then be sent to the manufacturer of the device for replacement purposes.
