It shall be unlawful to discharge any firearm, air gun, BB gun, bow or any toy gun projecting lead or any other type of missile capable of producing injury to the human body, in and about the territorial and jurisdictional bounds of the town, except in a regularly established shooting gallery or range. However, this section shall not be construed to prohibit any police officer from discharging a firearm in the performance of his or her duty; nor a citizen from discharging a firearm when lawfully defending his or her person or property, or the property of another that is in that person’s care and custody.
