149.02 SICK LEAVE.
   (a)   Each full-time employee of the Village shall receive ten hours each month sick leave credit. An employee may use sick leave for absence due to employee's illness, injury, exposure to contagious disease, which could be communicated to other employees and absence due to the death in the employee's immediate family. The employee shall notify his supervisory official not later than one hour after the regular starting time of the working day for approval of leave under this section. The Village Administrator or the Mayor may request a doctor's certificate for such absence. Unused sick leave may accumulate up to nine hundred sixty hours. The previously accumulated sick leave of an employee who has been separated from Village employment for not more than one year may be placed to his credit upon reemployment with the Village. Sick leave shall not be used as vacation or time off.
   (b)   Each employee who at the time of retirement has accrued to his credit unused sick leave of four hundred eighty hours or more shall be paid for a period of time equal to one-third of such accrual. This ratio shall continue to a maximum of nine hundred sixty hours sick leave equaling three hundred twenty hours of pay. (Ord. 93-1. Passed 2-8-93.)
