5-3-1: FIRE CHIEF APPOINTED; DUTIES:
The Office of Fire Chief is hereby created. Each year the Mayor of the City, by and with the consent of the City Council, shall appoint a Fire Chief. In addition there shall be appointed two (2) Assistant Chiefs, and the members of the City Council shall be ex officio Fire Chiefs.
The Fire Chief shall, immediately after his appointment, and as often thereafter as he may deem necessary, inspect all stoves, fireplaces and other places in which fire may be kept, in the City, and all stove pipes, chimneys, funnels or other apparatus therewith connected for the purpose of ascertaining whether the same are in such condition as to endanger the building to which the same is or may be attached, or to endanger any building in the City, and shall notify the occupants to make all necessary repairs and see that the same are done in a reasonable time. Any such inspection shall be made at the request of any citizen, and at any time for the purpose of ascertaining the safety of any building. (Ord. 16, 12-5-1908; amd. 1979 Code)
