(A) (1) Members of the Police Department shall be appointed by the Chief of Police after due examination and based on the results of the examination.
(2) An appointee shall serve one year’s probation.

(B) Every person appointed as a law enforcement officer shall:
(1) Be a citizen of the United States;
(2) Be at least 20 years of age;
(3) Be of good moral character;
(4) Be fingerprinted and a search made of local, state, and federal fingerprint files;
(5) Not have been convicted of a felony or an offense involving moral turpitude;
(6) Have a high school diploma or its equivalent;
(7) Pass an examination conducted by a physician employed by the town;
(8) Be interviewed and approved by Chief of Police;
(9) Be certified in accordance with state law;
(10) Be subject to a drug screening exam which shall produce a negative result; and
(11) Be subject to a psychological exam which is positive.
